Our MissionOur mission and our goal is to provide the proper textbooks and materials for every SCF Bradenton Branch student's class schedule at the lowest total cost possible. We will shop used book markets on the student's behalf; we will provide new books at list price; we will provide what materials and supplies we can at reasonable prices; and we will refer students to the best sources we know of for any materials we are unable to supply ourselves.
Company ProfileCampus Books is a labor of love of the Bennett family. Mary & Mac Bennett founded Campus Books in July of 1998 in order to provide a much needed alternative source for textbooks to the students of State College of Florida (SCF). Mary is a certified Math teacher and juggled teaching full time at Bayshore High School with working long nights in the store for their first 7 years in business. In January 2006, she agreed to "retire" from teaching and assumed more of the overall day to day operations of Campus Books. Mac had almost 20 years prior experience running on-campus college bookstores here in Florida as well as in Ohio when Campus Books first opened its doors in 1998. Mac thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of an ever -changing college bookstore industry until his very sudden and unexpected death on June 7, 2008. We used to think that he spent an inordinate amount of time playing Free Cell in his office; now we realize just how much he handled in a day's time, because we are struggling to fill his shoes. William Nicholas Bennett, better known as 'the Nick Bud', was the store's first full-time employee despite being the youngest son. He worked hard to help get the store going, but left in 2004 to pursue a career as a Project Manager in commercial construction in Hillsborough County. Recently, he accepted a position that entails managing special projects across the entire state. Bryanne Reneé Lane, pronounced 'Brian', is the middle child and only daughter. She was a member of the family business full-time for three years, until her husband's vocation moved them to southern Alabama. There she completed her A. S. in Business Administration and now stays quite busy as a pastor's wife and stay-at-home mom to their toddler, Miss Emily Catherine. Bryanne makes "guest appearances" to help with customer service during the busy semester start ups. Michael Legendré Bennett, whom you'll hear his family refer to as Jon or Shaun, is the eldest son and the last of the three children to join the ranks of the family business. Michael was living in Seattle, Washington when the store first opened and had to be arm-twisted into moving back to Florida. He was only in town a few months however, before jumping on board at Campus Books. In 2006, Michael moved to Nashville, Tennessee in order to re-enter the computer programming field. Jessica Wootten-McMaster was one of Mary's promising young Math students at Bayshore High School before becoming the first full-time non-family employee of Campus Books in May 2005. Jessica has proven to be an excellent addition to our staff. She graduated in May '08 with 2 degrees, a Business degree and a Marketing degree and after that was promoted to Store Manager. Married on March 14th, 2009 Jessica Wootten is now Jessica McMaster. Don Kruse is Mary's brother and has been helping with Spring and Fall "RUSHES" for the last 4 years. He resides with his wife, Barb in Cincinnati, Ohio but enjoys an excuse to head to Florida twice a year. The joke is on him though, because he works so hard and for such long hours that the only Florida sun he gets to see is that which shines through the store window every afternoon!
Campus Books is a member of NACS, the National Assn. of College Stores and FACS, the Florida Assn. of College Stores
